ii Taphonomic Comparison of Two Horizons From Don ’ s Gooseberry Pit , Black Hills , SD

چکیده
Pit caves contain large samples of terrestrial micro-vertebrate specimens that accumulate during periods of surface erosion. The fossil record for vertebrates is riddled with biases that often mask paleoecological and biogeographical information. Taphonomic biases need to be realized and accounted for before making any interpretations on these faunal accumulations. Here we present a study analyzing the effect of trap effectiveness in pit caves on the preservation and representation of fossil classes as a function of pit depth. Micro-vertebrate remains from two excavation horizons of different depths from Don’s Gooseberry Pit in the Black Hills of South Dakota were analyzed. The results of this study show that for shallow traps there is a significant bias with depth in the variety and types of organisms trapped in deposits of this nature. This bias is shown to be dominantly a result of preferential accumulation of smaller organisms, particularly rodents, in the shallower excavation level. The findings also suggest that post-depositional survivorship of specimens is diminished at greater depth, which may be a result of overburden from burial.

Physicochemical Properties of Black Walnut (Juglans nigra L.) in the Western Mid-hills of Nepal
The black walnut (Juglans nigra L.) is an underutilized fruit in the mid-hills of Nepal. However, the physico-chemical properties of Nepalese black walnut are almost unavailable in the literature. Four walnut growing districts namely Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Jumla and East Rukum selected and the black walnut collected at commercial maturity from the local markets. The physical properties w...

Gooseberry seed (Phyllanthus acidus) was used as an adsorbent to determine its feasibility for the removal of Cr(VI). Various parameters such as pH, temperature, contact time, initial metal concentration and adsorbent dosage were investigated to determine the biosorption performance. Equilibrium was attained within 60 minutes and maximum removal of 96% was achieved under the optimum co...

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the marginal microleakage of two glass ionomer materials used as pit and fissure sealants. Thirty healthy premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment were randomly assigned to two groups (n=15) and respectively sealed with two glass ionomers (Group I, Fuji VII and Group II, Fuji IX). All teeth were preserved in artificial saliva (NAF) for 10 days...

Radial geodesics as a microscopic origin of black hole entropy. Abstract. The entropy of charged black hole is calculated by using the partition function evaluated at radial geodesics confined under horizons. We establish two quantum phase states inside the black hole and a transition between them. The second chapter of present paper is devoted to consequent launching the constructed vehicle to...
متن کاملAnalysis of the gooseberry locus in Drosophila embryos: gooseberry determines the cuticular pattern and activates gooseberry neuro.
The segment-polarity class of segmentation genes in Drosophila are primarily involved in the specification of sub-segmental units. In addition, some of the segment-polarity genes have been shown to specify cell fates within the central nervous system. One of these loci, gooseberry, consists of two divergently transcribed genes, gooseberry and gooseberry neuro, which share a paired box as well a...
